The New ARG314 Rain Gauge!


After 35 years, EML's longest serving product, the ARG100, is being discontinued. 

The good news is that it is being replaced by the new ARG314 (right), which is a UV-stabilised injection-moulded plastic replica of the very successful, highly accurate aluminium SBS range!

Also, it looks amazing!!

Differences between the ARG314 and the ARG100

                              ARG314 (New)

  • Refined aerodynamic shape to enhance data accuracy – supported by published academic research (Colli et al., 2018 & Pollock et al., 2018)
  • Precision injection moulded internal components resulting in outstanding accuracy and repeatability
  • Improved nozzle design – repeatable performance up to 1000mm/hr.
  • Available with multiple resolutions:
                Metric: 0.1mm, 0.2mm, 0.5mm
                Imperial: 0.005 in, 0.01 in, 0.02 in
  • Available as a siphon version  
  • Meets all WMO recommendations for funnel area
  • Dual reed switch version available – increased redundancy. 
  • External levelling bubble for easy levelling.
  • No base plate required. Adjustable mounting feet also make levelling this gauge straightforward - just like the SBS.
                              ARG100 (Old)

  • Aerodynamics of the gauge shape were restricted by old production techniques – shape was not the optimal aerodynamic shape
  • Vacuum formed internal tipping bucket components
  • Nozzle design limited the maximum rainfall intensity to 300mm/hr.
  • Available as 0.2mm or 0.01 inches per tip
  • No siphon option
  • Did not meet WMO recommendations for funnel area
  • Single fixed reed switch with internal levelling bubble.
  • Required a baseplate for most mounting applications
